Rabi Martins

Rabi is a well known member of the Party and has been involved with the Party policy making at the national level including as a member of the Federal Policy Committee. First elected as Borough Councillor in 2004 he has held office as Deputy Group Leader, Committee Chair, Cabinet Member (Regeneration and Partnership) and Council Chairman. He also serves on the Local Government AsssociationCommunity Well Being Board where he takes a particular interest in health inequalities issues. He also served as a member of the East of England Regional Assembly for two years.

He has a long and impressive record of public service and plays a leading role within the Party on Equality and Diversity Issues. In this context he has served on various national committees including the UK Immigrants Advisory Service and the Commission For Racial Equality Safer Communities Initiative Steering Group. He now serves on the Party Diversity Engagement Group chaired by the Party Deputy Leader, Vince Cable and acts as a spokesperson on Race and Diversity for the Party.

Rabi has significant experience of working on regeneration projects and currently works as an exceutive director for a major enterprise agency in west london. He also runs a training programme for business starts

He has a particular interest in crime prevention. He has served as an Independent Adviser to the Metropolitan Police Service and chaired the local Police Liaison Committee.

He has a keen interest in Human Rights issues, particularly in Kashmir, which he visited with Baroness Shirley Williams, Lord Dholakia and some MPs in 2003. Rabi is a member of Amnesty International and Liberty.
